Obagi Retinol
Shop Obagi retinol in two strengths, Obagi Retinol 0.5 and Obagi Retinol 1.0, plus the gentler Retinol + PHA Refining Night Cream from the Obagi range.
Retinol is a form of vitamin A and a well-established anti-ageing ingredient. It speeds up skin cell turnover and supports collagen production, which helps smooth skin texture, reduce fine lines, even out skin tone and keep pores clear. Start with Retinol 0.5 if you are new to retinol and move up to 1.0 once your skin is used to it.

How to Use Obagi Retinol
Use a pearl-sized amount at night only, on clean, dry skin, two or three nights a week to begin with. Increase slowly as your skin adjusts. Some dryness, flaking or mild redness in the first weeks is common. If irritation lasts, use it less often and follow with a moisturiser.
Retinol makes skin more sensitive to the sun, so always wear a broad spectrum sunscreen, SPF50, the next morning.
Retinol + PHA is formulated for sensitive skin, with gluconolactone and sodium hyaluronate, a form of hyaluronic acid. Stronger vitamin A treatments are prescription-only and available only after a consultation with our prescriber.

Expert Tip: Retinol
“Start retinol at 0.5%, two or three nights a week, and build up over a month. A small tingle is normal; stinging and peeling are a sign to slow down. Always pair it with SPF the next morning, and stop a week before any peel or waxing.”

Book a skin analysisObagi Retinol: Your Questions
Should I start with Obagi Retinol 0.5 or Obagi Retinol 1.0?
Most people start with Obagi Retinol 0.5. If you have used a retinoid before without irritation, Obagi Retinol 1.0 is the next step.
What are the benefits of Obagi retinol?
Used consistently, it can improve skin texture and radiance, soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and help with uneven skin tone. It also suits oily and combination skin prone to blocked pores and acne. Results build over weeks, not days.
What should you not mix with retinol?
Avoid using strong exfoliating acids, scrubs or benzoyl peroxide on the same night. Use vitamin C in the morning and retinol at night.
Is Obagi retinol a prescription product?
No. Obagi retinol is a cosmetic retinol cream you can buy without a prescription. Prescription-only treatments are available only after a consultation.
Can I buy Obagi retinol in the UK?
Yes. HC Skin is an authorised Obagi Medical provider. Order online and collect in clinic in Rainford, with a skin scan at your appointment.
Can I use retinol while pregnant?
Retinol is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Stop using it and ask your GP or midwife; our team can suggest alternatives.
